NAN TIMMERMAN of Oto, surrounded by the love of her family, returned home to the Lord on Monday, February 25,2008.
We were blessed to have her with us for 86 years.
A celebration of life service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
Born ANNIE L. McNAMARA, she was known to all as Nan; a brave and beautiful woman who unswervingly put her family and friends before any other concern. Born to Michael and Mary (Murphy) McNamara, she was raised in Glasgow, Scotland, a true bonnie Scot. She met her future husband, Dale, at a dance while he was briefly stationed in Scotland at the beginning of World War II. For two years they penned letters of love that helped sustain each other through the war. Upon Dale's release from a POW camp, they agreed to marry. Their "Happily Ever After" began in Oto, Iowa on July 14, 1946, when they joined in marriage at the United Church of Christ.
Nan loved gardening, reading, dancing, traveling and above all else, her family. The warmth of her personality, the joyousness of her humor and the enduring grace of her spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Those survivors fortunate enough to cherish her memories include her beloved husband, Dale Timmerman of Oto; a brother, Michael McNamara of Glasgow, Scotland; a sister, Mary Lee of Manchester, England; a daughter Sharon Henning of Omaha, Nebraska; a son, Scott Timmerman of Oto; four grandchildren, Heather and her husband, Leonard Lyions of Wolbach, Nebraska; Michelle Henning of New York, New York; Jennifer Hanson and Matt of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Travis Henning of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and three great-grandchildren.
